  • What is the pay on recognized holidays?

Nurses shall receive one and one-half (1 ½) times their base rate of pay for all hours worked on recognized holidays.

  • How much Paid Time Off (PTO) do I accrue?

All regular full-time and part-time Nurses are eligible to accrue PTO. PTO is accrued based on the number of hours worked. “Years of Service” are based on the number of years a Nurse has been a SNA member.

  • Is management able to change my schedule without discussing the change with me?

A posted schedule will not be changed with less than 72 hour’s notice without a Nurse’s agreement. The hospital will make reasonable efforts to seek volunteers for schedule changes and to make schedule changes in the order of reverse seniority provided that the skill mix requirements are met.

  • If I am being called into a Fact Finding, what do I do?

The first thing you do is contact SNA via email: snanews@sonic.net. A Nurse has 72 hours to arrange representation by your SNA union representative.

  • What is an AUP?

An AUP is an Assignment Under Protest. This is a form that any Nurse or group of Nurses should fill out when they feel their assignment is unsafe due to staffing issues, high acuity, if out of ratio, or when a department has too many unqualified staff. An AUP can be found in paper form in any department. It can also be found on the SNA website under Resources. A step by step how to fill out an AUP can be found under Resources as well. After an AUP is filled out and signed by the appropriate parties please fax it to SNA at 707-575-8138. All AUPs are reviewed by the SNA board. There is no repercussion to filling out an AUP. Filling out an AUP for an unsafe assignment helps protect your license.

  • As a Relief/Per Diem Nurse, how many availability shifts am I required to give the hospital?

It all depends if your department does 4 week schedules or 6 week schedules, if you are Category B or C, and if you work 8 hour or 12 hour shifts. Availability requirements can be found on page 10-11 of the contract. The majority of Per Diem Nurses are 12 hour shift Category C (6 week schedule) with an availability requirement of 12 shifts and that includes the required every third weekend.

  • How can I change from a Category B to a Category C Per Diem/Relief Nurse?

Relief Nurses may change category groups upon written request to their Manager. Relief Nurses must give written notice of their intent to change status in either May or November of each calendar year. The change will take effect at the beginning of the next 6-week work schedule following the written request provided that the written request is submitted at least 35 calendar days before the first day of that schedule. All other requests will take effect at the beginning of the second 6-week work schedule following the written request. Relief Nurses may not request a status change more frequently than once per calendar year unless there are special circumstances that the manager is agreeable to.

  • In what time frame can I apply for the clinical ladder?

A new Nurse applicant must have one year of service at SRMH following the Clinical Academy to be eligible to apply for the clinical ladder. Once that requirement has been met then a Nurse can apply at any time during the year for the Clinical Ladder.

To remain on the clinical ladder, a Staff Nurse III or IV must submit a re-application every year by the end of February (usually February 28th). The criteria for re-submission must be work done from January to December of the previous year. For example, my re-submission for Staff Nurse IV that I submit February 28th, 2024 will be work that I did January 2023 to December 2023.

  • Where do I find information about applying for the Clinical Ladder?

All the information for the Clinical Ladder can be found on the SRMH Sharepoint site: “SRMH RN Clinical Ladder.”

  • How is seniority defined?

Seniority is defined as a Nurse’s continuous length of employment at SRMH as a Staff Nurse and member of SNA.

  • What family members am I entitled to bereavement leave?

Bereavement/Compassion leave is available to benefits eligible Nurses. It is leave with pay for scheduled workdays missed due to the death of a family member (see below). The total leave available is 5 days in a calendar year and prorated for part-time status.

Bereavement/Compassion leave is eligible for a current spouse, registered domestic partner, son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, stepparent, stepchild, stepbrother, stepsister, grandparent, grandchild, current in-law relationships through marriage/registered domestic partnership and a person who stood in loco parentis (legal responsibility of a person to take on the functions and responsibilities of a parent). At least once per year, in the case of a death of a loved one who is not a qualifying family member, the hospital will grant at least one PTO day or if PTO exhausted one unpaid time off day.
